From Press Release
Cabrini University dominated from start to finish and blitzed Marymount, 17-5, Saturday to claim its final Atlantic East Conference women’s lacrosse championship at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The Cavaliers needed little time to create an early advantage, scoring four goals in the first five minutes of play and commanding a 12-1 edge in the second quarter.
The title was the fifth straight for (Cabrini 14-4) in its final season and a perfect ending for legendary coach Jackie Neary, whose team will head to the NCAA Division III tourney.
Neary, the 2013 Cabrini Athletics Hall of Famer, started the women’s lacrosse program from scratch in 1997 and amassed a 350-156 with 22 conference championships in 27 full seasons. Neary, a standout at Ridley High and Temple University, also was the Cabrini field hockey coach since 1996 and compiled a 281-251 record with six conference championships in that sport. That gives her 631 wins at Cabrini.
With 12 draw controls and a pair of goals, freshman Alena Catka (Sun Valley) was awarded the Championship game MVP honors. Olivia Little (Springfield-Delco) added four goals and four assists and Olivia Pace (Springfield-Delco) had had three goals and an assists while Cassidy Starner (Nazareth Area) had two goals and two assists.
