Honoree Questions:
How do you define leadership? “I am learning that being a person other people can consistently rely on, even when it’s difficult, is an important attribute as a leader. I see each member of my current team bringing something special to the equation and we are now realizing that unique value in each other. I hope the contribution others see in me is that ability to be there – to show up – when needed. This can be a caused turnover at a key moment, a supportive hug at the right time, or putting your own priorities on hold for a moment to listen to a friend. I have learned that sometimes this is all that is needed, someone to consistently show up and be there for their teammates.”
How do you balance academics, service, and athletics? “Good time management and a great support system have become essential to achieving my goals. I couldn’t balance everything that I do without the support of my parents, coaches, teachers, friends, and teammates. They always support me through the early mornings, late nights, on the field, and at school. I am also fortunate to attend AIS, where the teachers and coaches are so accessible and committed to our learning. If you need an extra 15 minutes or another teacher to help you better understand something, they’re always there for you. Their confidence in me and commitment have made all the difference over the past 3 years.”
What are your future goals (college and/or professional)? “I am currently committed to the admissions process at the United States Naval Academy and hope to major in political science. I look forward to playing for the USNA Women’s Lacrosse team and think it would be exciting to be a lawyer in the JAG Corps for the Navy eventually. Right now, however, I am trying to focus on my immediate goals, focusing my efforts on each day, each class, and each game. I am so lucky to have landed at Agnes Irwin. Our team is full of talent and I believe we have great things ahead.”
