A seven-point performance helped Sarah Groark (Episcopal Academy) lead the St. Joseph’s women’s lacrosse team to its second-straight win over the weekend, earning the sophomore attacker a selection as Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. The conference announced the weekly awards on Monday afternoon.

Groark continues to grow in her first year playing collegiately, having now scored hat tricks in back-to-back Atlantic 10 matchups. The West Chester native posted team-highs in goals (4), assists (3) and points (7) in the win over Duquesne on Saturday, setting career-marks in each as well. Three of Groark’s four strikes came in the second frame to help spark a 9-0 Hawk run to overcome an early deficit in the 16-10 win.
In the three wins on the season, Groark has averaged three goals a game and has pitched in five assists. Groark is second on the team in points (17) and trails midfielder Bonnie Yu in the goal scoring charts by five goals as the rookie builds on her debut campaign.

WCU’s Gorr (Bishop Shanahan) is PSAC Defensive Player of the Week
West Chester senior goalkeeper Jessica Gorr (Bishop Shanahan) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division defensive athlete of the week.
Gorr backstopped now No. 1 West Chester to a pair of wins last week, including a victory over No. 5 Le Moyne at home. She was credited with 16 saves in the two games combined last week while scooping up four ground balls and causing one turnover.
Gorr stopped 51.6 pct. of the shots she faced last week. Against Le Moyne, Gorr held the Dolphins to their lowest goal output of the year (9) while tying a season-high with 11 saves. It was the first game all season that Le Moyne was held in single digits in scoring. In fact, the Dolphins only had six goals with five minutes left in the game. Gorr also collected three ground balls in the win.
