Wissahickon will host Conestoga Saturday at 10 a.m. in the 3rd Annual Jim Simmington Memorial Game to honor the memory of former assistant coach and beloved teacher Jim Simmington.
Simmington was a popular 6th-grade teacher at Wissahickon Middle School and co-founder of the Wissahickon MS lacrosse program who later served as a top assistant coach for the high school program. He passed away in December 2019 of cancer.
Simmington also was a Conestoga graduate and later returned to Conestoga to teach and coach lacrosse before coming to Wissahickon School District to continue his teaching career. As an assistant coach he helped Wissahickon High share the 2010 Suburban One American Conference title, the school’s first league crown since 1999. Simmington played at West Chester University and also coached at Archbishop Carroll.
Conestoga and Wissahickon enter the game ranked among the teams in the PA State Lacrosse Rankings in 3A. Conestoga (12-2) is ranked No. 9 and Wissahickon (11-1) was under consideration.
