From Press Release
The FDU-Florham Department of Athletics has officially named Sierra Slack (Eastern Regional-NJ) as Interim Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach for the 2023 season. Slack, who has served as a graduate assistant for the past two years, will take over as head coach of a program for the first time in her career.
“We are thrilled to promote Sierra to the role of Interim Women’s Lacrosse Coach,” said Co-Interim Director of Athletics Kristin Giotta. “During her time as an assistant coach she has proven to us that she is ready to lead the team and look forward to her continuing the successes of the women’s lacrosse program both athletically and academically.”
Slack and the Devils went 16-3 overall and an undefeated 8-0 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play last season and reached the conference championship game for the 12th time in program history. In the spring of 2021, FDU-Florham took an undefeated 16-0 record into the second round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Tournament after defeating Stevens for the MAC Freedom title.
“I feel so lucky to have trained as an assistant and player under coaches who have a strong passion for the game,” said Slack. “I aspire to keep the love of the game at the forefront, while instilling strong values in my student-athletes to guide their everyday actions and decision-making. This is a really special group of players and staff highly invested in their growth as a team. We are excited to build off the deep history of the program and see where this group takes the future of FDU-Florham Lacrosse.”
Slack was a two-time captain and four-year starter for the Occidental College Women’s Lacrosse team. She was a three-time All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) First Team selection and earned Second Team honors in 2016. Slack, ho posted 283 career points and 204 career goals, which both rank first all-time at Occidental, was a two-time All-West Region honoree, was named 2015 SCIAC Newcomer of the Year and Class of 2018 Roy Dennis Scholar-Athlete.
After graduating from Occidental, Slack served as an assistant coach with the Tigers from 2019-21 and was part of a staff that earned Coaching Staff of the Year accolades.
FDU-Florham will open its 2023 campaign on February 22 at home against Washington College (Md.) at 5:00 pm on Robert T. Shields Field.
