Philly women’s season opens today; Temple kicks off campaign at home vs. Vermont, travels to Ohio State Sunday

Temple lacrosse is set to open the 2023 season today as the Owls host the Vermont Catamounts at 3 p.m. Just two days later, the Owls will travel to Columbus, OH. to face off against Big Ten competitor Ohio State at 12 p.m. The home opener will be livestreamed on ESPN+ from Howarth Field, while the Ohio State matchup will be livestreamed on the Big Ten Plus Network.

  • The Owls open the season receiving votes in the IL Women/IWLCA Preseason Poll and the Nike/USA Lacrosse Preseason Poll. 
  • On an individual level, two players earned preseason recognition from the conference in seniors Belle Mastropietro (Springfield-Delco) and Mackenzie Roth (Parkland). Mastropietro, who was the AAC Midfielder of the Year and an Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-American at the conclusion of the 2022 season continued to rack up the awards, being tabbed Preseason Midfielder of the Year along with earning a spot on the Preseason All-Conference squad.  
  • Roth, who was a 2022 First Team All-Conference selection was named to the Preseason All-Conference team after sitting at second in the conference in the assist per game category with 2.12 in 2022. 
  • Of the eight Owls who received honors from the AAC last year, six of them return for the Cherry and White. Mastropietro and Roth were named to the first team, while Riley McGowan (Souderton), Maeve Tobin, Katie Shallow (North Penn) and Maddie Barber (Middle Township-NJ) earned second team honors. 
  • The squad remains under the guidance of long-time head coach, Bonnie Rosen (Harriton), as she enters her 17th season at the helm of the program.
