The Ohio State University Department of Athletics has informed women’s lacrosse head coach Amy Bokker (Phoenixville grad) that she will not be returning as coach of the team for the 2024 campaign. Bokker had one year remaining on her current contract. A search for her successor will begin immediately.
Ohio State grad Gabby Capuzzi Solomon (Archbishop Carroll), associate head coach of the women’s lacrosse team, will serve as the team’s interim head coach.
“I want to thank Gene Smith and the Ohio State University for this opportunity,” Bokker said. “My family and I have enjoyed being a part of this spirited community during these past four years. I wish future success to the student-athletes and the program.”
Bokker was named the third head coach in Ohio State women’s lacrosse program history in June 2019 after a successful career at Stanford. She posted a 23-32 overall record through four seasons at Ohio State, including a 6-18 record in the Big Ten Conference.
“On behalf of the department, I want to thank Amy for her leadership of our women’s lacrosse program over the last four years,” Janine Oman, Ohio State Senior Deputy Director of Athletics said. “She has provided special memories and experiences to our student-athletes during this time.”
Bokker has been a collegiate head coach for 26 seasons at four schools – American, George Mason, Stanford and Ohio State – and her teams have compiled a 268-193 overall record.
Capuzzi, a four-year letterwinner from 2009-12 and assistant coach from 2012-14 with the Buckeyes, spent six seasons at Navy, where she held the titles of assistant coach (2015-18) and associate head coach (2019-20). Capuzzi’s primary focus was on Navy’s defense, while she also had an active role in recruiting.
Capuzzi started a term as the Division I representative for the IWLCA Board of Directors July 1, 2020.
A Second Team All-American during her time with the Scarlet and Gray, Capuzzi led the Buckeyes with 42 goals, 52 draw controls, 38 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers in 2012. She is third in career draws (166) and owns two of the Top 10 single-season records in that category.
Following her playing days, Capuzzi remained with the program for the 2013 and 2014 seasons as an assistant coach. She served as the Buckeyes’ offensive coordinator and draw specialist. In 2014, Capuzzi helped Ohio State finish 13-7 and earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Over her six seasons at Navy, the Midshipmen won 80 games and in 2017 became the first Service Academy team from a women’s sport to advance to the NCAA Final Four. Navy won Patriot League titles in 2017 and ’18 and registered at least 13 wins in every full season it played during Capuzzi’s tenure.
