Men’s lacrosse: Costin, Traynor brothers help No 17 Penn State down No. 10 Penn

The 17th-ranked Penn State men’s lacrosse team outscored visiting Penn, 6-0, in the final period and defeated the 10th-ranked Quakers, 15-9, on Saturday afternoon.

Mac Costin

Kevin Winkoff had five goals for the Nittany Lions (4-1) whole senior Mac Costin (Haverford School) had three goals and TJ Malone (Haverford School) and Jack Traynor (Malvern Prep) each scored twice while Matt Traynor (Malvern Prep) had a goal and two assists.

Also, Head coach Jeff Tambroni captured his 100th career victory. at Penn State.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Penn State started off strong with three straight goals in the first quarter with two coming from Winkoff to give the Nittany Lions a 3-0 lead with 6:03 remaining.
Penn answered with four unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead with 13:10 remaining in the second quarter.
Jack Posey scored the Nittany Lions first goal in the quarter with 5:51 remaining in the half to even the game up at 4-4.
Penn added two goals before Winkoff scored his third goal of the game to close out the half with 1:54 remaining with the score at 6-5 in favor of Penn.
The teams went back and forth in the scoring in the third quarter to notch the game at 9-9 heading into the final quarter.
Penn State then went on a six-goal scoring run including two by Jack Traynor to secure the 15-9 victory.
