Granite Run Buick GMC Game of the Day: Springside Chestnut Hill completes 2-game sweep of Florida powers

April 4, 2023 by Chris Goldberg

Hayes Schreiner believes Springside Chestnut Hill Academy has taken a major step forward in its two-game Spring Break trip to Jacksonville, Florida.

“This experience is going to propel us as a team moving forward for sure,” said the 2024 goaltender. “Everyone feels a lot tighter with the guys.”

Two thrilling wins over elite teams in a long trip will do that for a team that has high expectations.

Tonight at Ponte Vedra, just south of Jacksonville, the Blue Devils earned a hard-fought 9-8 victory over the Sharks (11-5), the state’s No. 5 ranked team in the Lax Numbers ratings. The win came a day after SCH (6-1) claimed a 17-14 win over Bolles School (Jacksonville), a 17-2 team ranked No. 4.

Finn Dougherty (two goals) had the game winner for SCH while Alec Tulio scored three times and Cole Carberry added a pair. Brendan Dundas had a goal and an assist and Ross Prince won 13 of 20 faceoffs and scooped nine groundballs.

The game’s MVP was Scheiner, a Penn State commit who posted 11 saves and had some key stops down the stretch.

“It feels great,” Schreiner said. “It was definitely tough to adjust to not playing lacrosse for almost a week and then going out and playing two of the top teams in the state of Florida.

“But we battled and we are coming home 6-1. This trip has been awesome, all the guys have been great and we have spent every minute together having fun and enjoying our time down here. I think we’ve seen the team come together and battle against two great teams.”

Schreiner said the defense was clutch in tonight’s game.

“The offense has been lights out all year and they haven’t missed a beat these last two games,” he said. “The defense is showing great improvement and they have been able to give me the shots I want to see to be successful.”
