Kennett senior Zach Hulme said his team never doubted themselves – even when they trailed host Boyertown by five goals with only 4 minutes to play in today’s District 1 boys’ 3A second-round game.
“We just had to tell ourselves to play our game,” said Hulme. “Everyone knows lacrosse is a fast sport and scores can change in seconds. We knew we had it in us; we just had to stay focused and move the ball like we know we can.”
The ball moved often from Hulme’s stick into the net. The Marquette signee scored a remarkable nine goals and Bo Freebery tied it late in regulation off a Reagan Pelletier steal and feed and then won it in overtime as the Blue Demons defeated the Bears, 14-13.

Kennett (17-3) – which avenged a 14-13 loss to the Bears in the first game of the year – advances to the quarterfinals Tuesday at top-seeded Radnor (17-4 winner over Council Rock North). Boyertown finished 14-5.
“Emotions are through the roof, winning this game gives us a chance to make state playoffs,” said Hulme. “This is only the second time in our school history our team could achieve that. Everyone is beyond excited but we get back to work tomorrow and focus on getting better for Tuesday.”
Boyertown took a 13-8 lead when Mason Barndt scored his sixth goal of the game with 4 minutes left. But Hulme scored four goals in 3 minutes and Freebery then tied it with 33 seconds to play and won it on a fastbreak.

“Zach got us started with his shooting and our goalie Josh Holt (19 saves) made some huge saves,” said Freebery. “It’s pure joy for our team and coaches.
“I am really excited – I get to keep playing with these guys.”
