Staff Report

Cape Henlopen has defeated Episcopal Academy for the second straight year.

You read it right.

The visiting Vikings used solid goaltending from freshman Mason Trench (12 saves), strong faceoff work from senior CJ Fritchman and solid defense to key a 10-9 win today over the Churchmen.

It was Cape’s opener. EA, ranked No. 6 by Phillylacrosse.com, fell to 2-2.

Jacob Schell (3 goals, 2 assists), Luke Burton (2G, 2A) and Cody Trivits (1G, 2A) led thre attack for Cape Henlopen, which led much of the way.

Last year Cape defeated EA, 13-10, and went on to the Delaware state finals where it fell to Salesianum School.

“It’s a huge win for us, it is a great way to start off the season,” said Trivits, a 2023 midfielder headed to Randolph Macon. “The key to winning for us today was definitely our defense’ they stepped up in crunch time. We had good play, all around.”

Lucas Slate had three goals and Dylan Jaszcz added two for EA

Trivits said the win should serve as motivation to practice harder.

“I believe it just makes is work harder to be the best team as a whole and to know that we can bounce off each other to make each other better day in and day out,” he said. “It’s going to take a lot of making ourselves better in practice and knowing what mistakes we’ve made in the previous games so we can work on them for future games.”
