It is with great pleasure that Episcopal Academy announces Steve Colfer as its boys’ varsity lacrosse coach. Coach Colfer brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game of lacrosse to EA.

Colfer comes to Episcopal Academy from Cabrini University, where he has been tremendously successful in his 23 years as head coach and 12 years as Assistant Athletic Director for Recruitment and Retention.
Colfer replaces Chris Bates. EA athletic director Todd Fairlie said Bates and EA agreed to part ways before the season’s final game in the Inter-Ac League Tournament.
During his tenure at Cabrini, his teams won 22 consecutive league championships with 21 NCAA tournament appearances. In 2019, his team went on to win the NCAA Division III National Championship at Philly’s Lincoln Financial Field.
That year, the USILA named Coach Colfer its Francis “Babe” Kraus Division III Coach of the Year. He is also a 13-time Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Coach of the Year. Coach Colfer has 329 collegiate career wins (.794 winning percentage), which ranks in the top ten winningest coaches in NCAA history. In 2021, he was inducted into the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame (Eastern PA Chapter). Coach Colfer has coached three National Players of the Year and 81 All-Americans.
Colfer had a standout record of 329-86 at Cabrini.
Colfer’s hiring comes as Cabrini announced in a joint statement with Villanova University Friday that its campus has been purchased by Villanova. The 2023-24 school year will be the last for Cabrini.
