Stockton University used a fast start and strong finish Saturday to top host Elizabethtown (1-1) 20-15. The Ospreys (2-0) jumped out to a 5-1 lead and later scored the last four goals of the game.
Dante Poli (Central Bucks South) potted five goals and dished four assists for a game-high nine points to go with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers for the Ospreys.
Colin Hopkins (Springfield-Delco) scored a career-high five goals and dished one assist for a career-best six points. Luc Swedlund contributed three goals and an assist while Ryan Anderson added a goal and three helpers while Noam Levy-Smith (Ocean City-NJ) scored twice and Tyler Horvath (Central Bucks South) won 18 of 34 faceoffs.
For Elizabethtown, Riley Langen (Moravian Academy) had five goals and two assists and Gavin Gismondi (West Deptford, NJ) had two goals and one assist.
Lynchburg 11, Cabrini 7
In its 2023 home opener, the Cavaliers dropped a decision to ninth-ranked Lynchburg (3-0) at Edith Robb Dixon Field on a snowy afternoon.
Zack Kaut (Penncrest) and Dillon McManus had two goals each for the Cavs – ranked 12th in the latest USILA poll. Jake Goss (St. Joseph’s Prep), Mason Lenart (Wilson) and Brady Rauner (Ocean City-NJ) each scored for Cabrini.
Lynchburg was led by five goals from Dylan Wolfe, who also had two assists. Jake Rust scored three times for the Hornets.
Widener 13, Shenandoah 6
After dropping their first game of the new season against the Price bounced back to defeat the Hornets.
The Pride are 1-1.
Connor Heisman (Bishop Shanahan) and Nick DiCicco (Penn Charter) tied for a game-high four goals each. Drew Venit (Gloucester Catholic) had a team-leading six ground balls, while Jimmy Knepp (Central Bucks East) was right behind with five.
Neumann 10, Wilkes 2
The Knights only allowed eight shots on goal on their way to a win over Wilkes. Brendan Boschi paced the Knights with three goals and an assist while Dalton Hofmann (Haddon Twp-NJ) and Renzo Garone finished with two goals each.
Immaculata 16, Cairn 0
The Mighty Macs blanked Cairn in a rare shutout.
The Mighty Macs started the party early, with senior David Azzarano (Radnor) tallying his first goal of the day just 12 seconds into the contest. Azzarano would add another goal in the 2nd period to go along with an assist. The contest saw nine different Immaculata players find the back of the net.
Joseph Biuso led the attack with four goals and one assist, Bailey Manion (New Egypt-NJ) added four assists and one goal. Freshman Matthew Frame (Middle Township-NJ) recorded his first career goal as a Mighty Mac, he would later go on and add two more to the box score to finish with three on the day.
Haverford 9, Mary Washington 5
The Fords (1-2), went on the road for a victory over Mary Washington, posting an early season win over the Eagles for the second consecutive year. The Fords prevailed in the defensive battle, with Matt Richards and Jonathan Moon each adding a pair of goals in the win. Andy Tiesto stopped 10 shots between the pipes to help the Fords make the most of the trip to Virginia.
Mary Washington opened the scoring just two minutes into the contest with Garrett Keogh finding Hunter Tipton for the first tally, but Haverford took advantage of a penalty on UMW as Jonathan Moon tallied a player-up strike to knot the contest at 1-1. Mary Washington had an answer minutes later, but Andrew Arth scored his first of the contest with 4:27 remaining in the first, taking a feed from Eric Dahlberg and finishing past the goalkeeper.
Drew Hoffman recorded his first goal of the season with 2:05 remaining, and the two teams headed into the second quarter with the Fords holding a one-goal lead. JD Nozemack tallied an unassisted strike to open the second, as sustained runs were few and far between in the early goings of the contest. Antonin Hoppmann-Salario tallied an assist to Dahlberg, who connected on a goal to put the Fords up yet again. UMW had an answer from Mike Seraphin-Jones, but Richards made sure that Haverford went into the intermission with the lead with an unassisted tally with 2:48 to play.
The final 30 minutes of the contest saw the Fords with a stifling defensive pressure. Jackson Popeck tallied to knot the score at 5-5 early in the stanza, but Haverford closed the contest on a 4-0 run. Jason Borsari and Buddy Pelish caused key turnovers while Teddy Carlin made the most of his opportunities from the X down the stretch. Will Graves put the Fords up for good with his goal with 5:58 left in the third, and first-year Reid Tietjen gave Haverford some insurance.
The Eagles looked for any way back into the contest in the fourth quarter, but were hampered by some penalties as Bryce Ridge went to the penalty box for a slash, allowing Moon tally another huge insurance goal. Richards added the ninth of the contest with just over 90 seconds remaining as Moon was credited with the assist. Pelish had a caused turnover and four ground balls to pace the Fords, while Samuel Millie added three ground balls. In total, eight different Fords were credited with a caused turnover.
Franklin & Marshall 23, Catholic 10
Liam Timmins (Malvern Prep) had three goals, three assists and two groundballs and Colin Hueston (Malvern Prep) had two goals and three assists while goalie Sage Garito (Haverford School) eared the win with 5 saves for F&M.
For Catholic, Fitz McLaughlin (Springside Chestnut Hill) had three goals and an assist, Connor Pierce (Radnor) scored twice, Luke D’Ambrogi (Cape Henlopen) had a goal and two assists, Mike Tayloe (Westtown School) had five groundballs and a caused turnover, Cooper DiCicco (Downingtown East) scored once and won 19 of 35 faceoffs, Jack Micco (Henderson) had a groundball and a caused turnover, Matt Ford (Malvern Prep) had a groundball and a caused turnover, Kevin Ortlieb (St. Joseph’s Prep) had a caused turnover, Jimmy Bevevino (Bishop Shanahan) had a groundball and Nic Pezone (Bishop Shanahan) had 9 saves.
