Syracuse senior goalkeeper Delaney Sweitzer (Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) has been honored for her performance in the Orange’s win against Notre Dame last Saturday as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Sweitzer made eight saves against the Fighting Irish. She also caused a career-high three turnovers and tied her career-best with six ground balls in the victory. Three of her saves came against Fighting Irish free-position attempts. After Notre Dame cut the Orange lead to four at the end of the third quarter, Sweitzer made three saves in the final 15 minutes to help secure Syracuse’s seventh consecutive victory.

The No. 2 Orange (7-0) look to remain unbeaten when they visit No. 9 Loyola tonight at 6 p.m.

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced this week’s women’s lacrosse athletes of the week. From the East, Kutztown’s Emma Meakim picked up the offensive award while East Stroudsburg’s Maggie Sell received the defensive award. From the West, Edinboro’s Rylee Jones was awarded Athlete of the Week, and Slippery Rock’s Sara Danowski was awarded Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Meakim started her week with a goal and an assist, Wednesday, as Kutztown defeated Shepherd 10-6 in its PSAC East opener. The junior’s goal came on her only shot of the game and she also had two ground balls and a caused turnover. In Saturday’s win over Lock Haven, Meakim supplied a goal and eight helpers for nine points. She once again scored on her lone shot, picked up a pair of ground balls and caused a turnover. Meakim has provided 15 assists and 25 points in leading KU to a 4-0 record. She’s just three assists shy of joining the program’s single-season top 10 list and is 14 points shy of 100 in her career.
