College honors: Florida’s Browndorf, Immaculata’s Watson, Neumann’s Corrigan, Stockton’s Horvath

After defeating then-No. 7 Loyola on Saturday, Florida senior defender Becky Browndorf (Upper Dublin) earned the American Athletic Conference Defender of the Week.

Browndorf – earning the first weekly honor of her career – finished the game against the Greyhounds with a team-high three groundballs and two caused turnovers.

The senior defender had the task of marking Loyola’s Jillian Wilson, holding her to just 1-of-2 shooting on the afternoon.

D3 – Atlantic East Conference awards

The Atlantic East Conference announced the Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week on Monday for the week ending on March 12th. Immaculata’s Liza Laxton and Neumann’s Catriona Corrigan earned Player and Defensive Player of the week honors, respectively.

Name: Liza Laxton
School: Immaculata
Class: Junior
Position: Midfield
Hometown: West Deptford, N.J.
High School: West Deptford
Brief Outlook of Week: Led Immaculata to their first win of the season on March 11th defeating Eastern University, scoring four goals, and adding eight assists. The eight assists sets a new Immaculata program record for assists in a single game, and her 12 points ties the Immaculata program record for points in a single game.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Name: Catriona Corrigan
School: Neumann
Class: Grad Student
Position: Goalkeeper
Hometown: Aldan, PA
High School: Bonner-Predergast
Brief Outlook of Week: Catriona Corrigan made 15 saves in net to pick up the 9-6 win at DeSales in Neumann’s only game of the week.

Honor Roll
Lindsey Fagan (Jr., Attack, Neumann/Bonner-Prendergast): Lindsey Fagan scored six goals in a 9-6 win at DeSales in Neumann’s lone game of the week. The junior finished the game with 12 shots, 11 on goal, and five draw controls in addition to her six goals.

Kristin Varilla (Jr., Attack, Gwynedd Mercy/North Penn): Varilla in two games this week finished with a team-high nine goals and 11 points. Varilla also had two groundballs, three draw controls, and one caused turnover.

Player of the Week:
Name: Olivia Little
School: Cabrini
Class: Graduate Student
Position: Attack
Hometown: Springfield, Pa.
High School: Springfield-Delco
Brief Outlook of Week: Little was a force on offense as she led the Cavaliers to a 22-5 victory over Webber International. The graduate student tallied eight goals and added five assists for 13 points in the game. Little also caused two turnovers in the contest.

Weekly Honor Roll:
Brylin Adams (Gr., Attack, Neumann): Adams tallied nine goals and two assists for 11 points in a 2-0 week for Neumann. The graduate student also finished with 13 draw controls and two ground balls. In a 12-9 win at Virginia Wesleyan, Adams finished with six goals and an assist and six draw controls. She followed with three goals and an assist with seven draw controls in a 13-6 win against Eastern.
Catriona Corrigan (Gr., Goalkeeper, Neumann/Bonner-Prendergast): Corrigan went 2-0 in the net as the Knights picked up two wins,. She also tallied seven groundballs. She made eight saves in a 12-9 win at Virginia Wesleyan. She followed with four saves and two goals-against in three quarters of work in a 13-6 win over Easter.
Kristin Varilla (Jr., Attack, Gwynedd Mercy/North Penn): Varilla in two games this week finished with ten goals an assist for elevent total points. Varilla also had six groundballs, five draw controls, and two caused turnovers.

Men’s D3

Stockton’s Horvath (CB South) is CLC Defensive Player of Week

Stockton senior Tyler Horvath (Central Bucks South) was chosen Coastal Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Horvath won 49 of 71 faceoffs for a .690 winning percentage and grabbed a team-high 29 ground balls during two Stockton victories last week. The junior won 30 of 38 draws (.789 win pct) and snagged 18 ground balls in a 24-13 win over Widener on March 8. Horvath followed by going 19-33 (.576) with 11 ground balls in a 22-9 triumph over Marymount on Saturday.

For the season, Horvath leads the Coastal Lacrosse Conference in faceoffs won (114) and taken (199) for a .573 winning percentage. He also stands second in the CLC in ground balls with an average of 11.0 per game for the 5-1 Ospreys. Horvath was selected All-America Honorable Mention by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association last year.
