Championship number twenty-two.

The Cabrini University men’s lacrosse team won its 22nd conference championship as the Cavaliers defeated Marymount University 23-6 Saturday afternoon to claim the 2023 Atlantic East Conference title on Edith Robb Dixon Field.

With the win, the Cavaliers punched their 20th ticket to the NCAA tournament. Cabrini will find out its 2023 NCAA tournament opponent tonight at 9 p.m. during the 2023 NCAA selection show.

The Saints took an early 2-0 lead as Chris Bochilo took advantage of a man-up opportunity and four the back of the Cabrini net at the 10:37 mark. One minute later, Ciaran Connolly netted his first of the game to put Marymount up 2-0. The Cavaliers answered with six straight goals as Dillon McManus netted two in the period to go ahead 6-2 after 15:00 of action. In the second quarter, the Cavs scoring streak continued as the Blue and White added another five goals with McManus completing his 11th hat trick of the year and Cabrini took an 11-2 lead into the break.

In the third, eight different Cavaliers found the back of the Saints net as Cabrini extended its lead to 19-4 after three periods. In the fourth, Connor Herraiz led off the quarter with a goal at the 14:39 mark and followed with an assist on Jake Schneider’s (Ocean City) goal thirty seconds later to make it 21-4 with 14:09 remaining. Herraiz and Connor Zombro closed out the scoring for the Cavs and sealed the 23-6 win.

Herraiz tallied a season-high 12 points as the freshman scored five times and recorded seven assists to earn the 2023 Atlantic East Championship tournament MVP award. Sophomore Jason Fridge was named the Elite-20 award winner to round out the major awards. John McCormick (Springfield-Delco) won 16 of 19 faceoffs.
