The Cabrini women’s lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday against a ranked D2 team, falling to host Tampa, 22-10, in the second game of a Spring Break trip.
Senior Dana Carlson (Springfield-Delco) paced the Cavaliers (2-1) with three goals, three draw controls and a caused turnover, while classmate Olivia Little (Springfield-Delco) added a goal and two assists to go with four draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Senior Shea Neary (Archbishop Carroll) and sophomore Caroline Gallagher (Middle Township-NJ) notched two goals each, while sophomore Olivia Pace (Springfield-Delco) paired a goal and an assist. Freshman Morgan McClintock (Garnet Valley) matched two caused turnovers and two ground balls, while senior Morgan Fazzini controlled four draws.
For Tampa (2-2), Riley McGettigan (Perkiomen Valley) collected two goals, four draw controls, a groundball and a caused turnover, Mekelsey Montgomery (Rancocas Valley) had a goal and Katie Slachta (Bayard Rustin) had a caused turnover and a groundball.
The Cavaliers grabbed an early lead, as Gallagher opened the scoring at the 13:16 mark of the first quarter. The Spartans quickly found their offensive rhythm, reeling off five consecutive markers. Pace’s goal stopped the Tampa run, pulling the Cavaliers to within 5-2 after the first quarter.
Tampa regained control of the scoreboard in the second, opening the period with six unanswered goals. The teams combined for six goals over the final five minutes of the period, but the Blue and White triled 13-5 at the half.
The clubs continued to alternate goals through the first five minutes of the third quarter, as the Cavaliers kept the game within reach. The Spartans put the game away late in the third, using a 6-0 run that extended through the final quarter.
Statistically, the game was much more even than the score. The Cavaliers were outshot 32-25 and committed 16 turnovers to 12 for the Spartans. Tampa also controlled 20 draws to 15 for the Cavaliers.
The Spartans, however, took advantage of their 11 free position shots, converting 10.
Olivia Mott led Tampa with six points, matching Lizzie Peirpont and Emma McLoughlin with three goals.
On Tuesday, Cabrini opened its trip with a 19-5 win at Webber International
Little paced the Cavaliers with six points and four goals to go with eight ground balls, one more goal than classmate Carlson.
Seniors Kelly Sweeney (Kingsway Regional-NJ) and Neary joined freshman McClintock with two goals and an assist each, while freshman Neve Murphy (Camden Catholic) scored twice.
