From Press Release
The 10th annual Play for the As event will be held Saturday at Ridley High School in Folsom.
The event fully supports those struggling with Alzheimer’s disease, which is a brain disorder that slowly destroys thinking and memory skills. It is currently the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S. (now affecting over 6 million Americans) and the 3rd leading cause of death among older people (behind only heart disease and cancer).
The event – created by Ridley coach Jef Hewlings while he was coach at nearby Strath Haven has raised nearly $130,000 to support the families of those caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. PFAs works directly with The Community’s Foundation to allocate financial resources to families in the region who show a financial need for funding.
This year’s event features 4 varsity HS games:
10:00 am – Springfield-Delco vs. Pennridge (boys)
12:00 pm – Ridley vs. Penn Charter (boys)
2:00 pm – Strath Haven vs. Mt. St. Joseph-MD (boys)
4:00 pm – Ridley vs. Interboro (girls)
For those that wish to contribute to our effort, secure donations can be made directly to PFAs through TCF at http://weblink.donorperfect.com/PlayfortheAs If your team plans to make a contribution to support the efforts (contributions are fully voluntary), you can use this link or make checks payable to TCF and bring to the event on Saturday.
