Elise Smigiel

Penn State women’s lacrosse head coach Missy Doherty announced the addition of Elise Smigiel (Germantown Academy) to the program on Tuesday.

Smigiel is a 6’0 attack/midfielder who appeared in 17 games and made one start as a true freshman at Marquette this past spring.

The Flourtown native totaled 26 points on 23 goals and three assists for the Golden Eagles. She also recorded two free position goals, four ground balls and a caused turnover.

Of the 53 total shots she took, 44 were on goal. She scored a hat trick twice during the season in games at San Diego State and at UConn and had nine multi-goal games. Two of her three assists occurred in a three-point effort against Villanova.

In the Big East Tournament Quarterfinals, Smigiel had two goals and a ground ball against Georgetown.

Prior to Marquette, Smigiel lettered four times in lacrosse at Germantown Academy under head coach Mary Dean. She scored over 100 goals in her prep career at GA as a four-year varsity starter.

She was named to the 2021 All-Inter-Academic League First Team and her school’s Team MVP in addition to winning the Inter-Academic Athletic League Athletic Director Award in 2021. That same year, she helped lead her squad to the Inter-Academic League Tournament Semifinals.

In 2019, she led Germantown Academy to the PAISAA Semifinals and made the Philly National Tournament Team.

In 2018, Smigiel was named the MSJA Rookie of the Year and won the Abby O’Bierne Memorial Award. She also made the Under Armour Philadelphia Command Team.

She played club for Phantastix Lacrosse Club under coach Lorraine Beers.
