HS girls’ previews: Delaware’s Cape Henlopen, Wilmington Friends

This is one of a series of previews for the 2022 scholastic lacrosse season

Cape Henlopen HS

League: Henlopen Conference (DEL)

Coaches: Lindsey Underwood, Head Coach, 68-4 record, 7th year, 6th as HC; Assistants: Leigh Rupar (7th yr), Anna Frederick (3rd year), Bruce Leibu (7th yr) and Drew Messick (1st year)

2021 record: 16-1 record. 12th Straight DE State Champions

Key Players: Ella Rishko, Kelly Bragg, Molly Mendes
Others to Watch: Lulu Rishko, Lexi Nowakowski, Megan Smith

Coaches Outlook: “The 2022 Cape Henlopen Lacrosse team is opening the season with two competitive teams out of Maryland in Stephen Decatur and Queen Anne’s County. This year’s team young with nine sophomores on the roster and is returning eight starters from a year ago. The team has worked hard in the off season and is poised to make another run at the DE State Championship.”

Wilmington Friends School
League: Independent Conference, Delaware
Coaches: Head Coach Jessica Franklin, Asst. Richard Kittle, Kristin Jenney, and Michael Coleman
2021 Record: 14-4, lost in semi state finals

Key Players: Seniors: Lucy Wood, Alexa Donahue , JR. Madeline Rowland
Others to Watch: Freshman- Lily Hebert, Sawyer Rowland, SR. Kaely Tornek

Coach’s Outlook for 2022: “We hope to maintain the momentum we had last year and continue to improve this season.”
