Defender Maddie Burns (Germantown Academy) collected two groundballs and two caused turnovers to help host Michigan – ranked No. 11 and one of the top surprises of the early going – to an 11-9 victory late Friday over Arizona State.
Kaylee Dyer (Penn Charter) added a groundball for the Wolverines.
Maryland 17, Virginia 13
Rachel Clark (Conestoga) had four goals for No. 10 UVA in the loss to No. 8 Maryland.
Louisville 18, Marquette 9
Madi McKee (La Salle) had a goal, two groundballs and and one caused turnover while Bella Karstien (Exeter) had an assist, three groundballs and a caused turnover for the Cardinals. Also, freshman Ava Coyle (Penn Charter) had a groundball to help lead the defense.
East Carolina 17, Winthrop 7
Carli Johnston (Springfield-Delco) had a goal and a groundball to help East Carolina (2-0) win.
Wofford 14, Akron 9
Carley Irvin (Council Rock South) had a goal and five draw controls for Wofford (1-0).
