Washington College head men’s lacrosse coach and alum John Nostrant, who spent most of his legendary coaching career at The Haverford School, will be inducted tonight into the National Interscholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association (NILCA) Hall of Fame.

John Nostrant

The NICLA, which strives to provide dedicated educational service to high school lacrosse coaches throughout the United States, will honor its 2022 Hall of Fame Class at the Plandome Country Club in Plandome, New York.

Nostrant, who was inducted into Washington College’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002, completed his first season as the head coach of the Shoremen in 2022. Prior to his return to Chestertown, Nostrant had been the head lacrosse coach at The Gilman School (Baltimore, Md.) since his hiring in 2019.

Prior to his time at Gilman, Nostrant spent 28 years at the Haverford School where he led the Fords to two unofficial, undefeated national championships (2011, 2015).

He joined the faculty and coaching staff at Haverford School and assumed the head coach position in 1991. In addition to his lacrosse duties, Nostrant was the director of athletics at Haverford for 22 years. Before Haverford, John served as the head lacrosse coach at St. Albans School in Washington, DC in 1990-1991 after serving as an assistant coach for one season.

On the field, Nostrant’s record of success was most impressive. His teams at Haverford won 490 games and earned 13 Inter-Academic League (Inter-Ac) regular-season championships, four Inter-Ac tournament titles, and two state championships (2000 and 2005). He was named National High School Coach of the Year in 2015. Along the way, Nostrant coached 36 high school All-Americans. He also served as an assistant coach for the USA U-19 world team, which won the gold medal in 2008.

Nostrant will be inducted along with close friend and former Washington College linemate Kevin Giblin ’85, will also be enshrined along with Nostrant and eight others.

Giblin was a two-time captain for the Shoreman lacrosse team.  He was on the 1985 team that was inducted into the Washington College Athletic Hall of Fame.  He was inducted into the Potomac Chapter of US Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the Georgetown Preparatory School Hall of Fame in 2007. Giblin is currently the assistant coach/defensive coordinator at Division I Mount St. Mary’s. Giblin arrived at the Mount after a storied career as a high school coach, compiling over 450 wins as a high school coach, including a pair of national titles at Georgetown Prep.

The NILCA seeks to honor those coaches whose mentorship and groundbreaking coaching careers have left an indelible mark on the high school game of lacrosse.

The event is being held at Plandome Country Club, 145 Stonytown Road, Plandome, NY 11030 (Nassau County, Long Island).
