Drexel’s Hillier resigns after personal leave; O’Donnell (Henderson, Penn State) named interim coach

June 11, 2022 by Chris Goldberg

Drexel Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Kim Hillier has resigned her position due to personal reasons. Hillier has been on a personal leave since April.

“I would like to thank Drexel University for the opportunity to have led this program,” said Hillier. “It has been an honor to work with my staff and my players this year and I am incredibly proud of them. Winning the CAA championship and competing in the NCAA Tournament has been a goal since day one. I wish Dragon Nation all the best moving forward.”

“I’d like to thank Kim for her leadership of our program over the last year, as the Dragons went on to secure their first CAA Championship,” said Drexel Director of Athletics Maisha Kelly. “We wish her the best in her future opportunities.”

Katie O’Donnell (Henderson, Penn State) has been named the interim Head Coach. O’Donnell served as the team’s assistant coach last season and was an integral part of the team’s success. In addition, Alyssa Guido has been elevated to associate head coach.

“I am excited to announce that Katie has accepted our offer to become Drexel’s Interim Head Coach,” said Kelly. “Katie did an outstanding job this past season. She has exhibited leadership qualities that have and will continue to positively impact Drexel Women’s Lacrosse.”

The Dragons won the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Championship for the first time in school history. Drexel defeated Towson, 11-10, in an overtime thriller at Vidas Field. The Dragons finished the 2022 season with a 12-8 record and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the second-straight season and for just the second time in the history of the program.
