D1 women’s Philly grads around the country: Massimino sisters, Diamond, Albert lead Georgetown; UNC gets boost from Dirks, Growney, Long

Many Philly women helped visiting Georgetown open its season Saturday with a 20-8 rout of crosstown Washington D.C. rival American in women’s D1 action.

Georgetown’s Nicole (left), Melissa Massimino

Annabelle Albert (Lawrenceville School) had two goals and Ali Diamond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored once. Nicole Massimino (Radnor), a grad transfer from Notre Dame, had four groundballs and a caused turnover and younger sister Melissa Massimino (Radnor) added two draw controls and a draw control.

North Carolina 15, James Madison 8

Olivia Dirks (Episcopal Academy), a Penn State transfer, collected a goal, three groundballs and two draw controls and Scottie Rose Growney (Conestoga) had two goals and a groundballs while Alissa Long (Springfield-Delco) had a groundball and a caused turnover for UNC.

For JMU, Rachel Matey (Archbishop Carroll) collected seven draw controls, two caused turnovers, two groundballs and a goal, Kacie Knobloch (Moorestown) had a goal, a groundall and a caused turnover and defender Carolyn Thistlewaite (New Hope-Solebury) had three groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Vanderbilt 18, Liberty 13

Gabby Fornia (Lenape) had two goals and six assists and Emily brooks (Moorestown) had a caused turnover for Vandy.

Jordan Baerga (Ursuline Academy) scored five goals for Liberty.

Marquette 16, Cincinnati 13

Peyton Mottice (Downingtown West) scored once and added a groundball and a caused turnover and Dani Mlkvy (Eastern Regional) had three groundballs and two caused turnovers for Cincinnati in the loss.

Johns Hopkins 15, Virginia Commonwealth 6

Georgie Gorelick (Academy of the Notre Dame) scored once for Hopkins while Julianna George (Penncrest) had two goals and two assists and Morgan Reed (Interboro) had a groundball for VCU.

Richmond 18, Old Dominion 7

Kendall Duffy (Wilson) had a goal and a draw control and Maggie O’Brien (Academy of Notre Dame) had two groundballs for Richmond.

For ODU, Lilly Siskind (Henderson) had five goals, a draw control and a caused turnover, Corinne Stratton (Ridley) had a goal and three draw controls, and Molly May (Radnor) scored once while Lauren Carey (Downingtown East) added two caused turnovers and a groundball.

Jacksonville 15, Virginia Tech 6

Paige Tyson (Perkiomen Valley) had a goal and a caused turnover control and Kayla Frank (Moorestown) added two draw controls for Virginia Tech in its loss.

Florida 22, Kennesaw State 7

Kylee Hubiak (Exeter) scored once and had a draw control and defender Becky Browndorf (Upper Dublin) had a groundball, a draw control and a caused turnover for Florida in its easy win.

Boston College 18, Northwestern 9

Madison Doucette (Unionville) had 12 saves for Northwestern in its opening-day loss to No. 1 BC.

Vermont 17, Colgate 8

Maris Large (Manheim Township) scored three goals and Molly McDonough (Harriton) had a groundball and a draw control while Dani Paterno (Clearview Regional) scored once for UVM.

Freshman Devon Maillet (Strath Haven) had eight draw controls, two assists and a caused turnover for Colgate.

East Carolina 13, Radford 4

Camryn Pennypacker (Clearview Regional) had a goal, an assist three groundballs and two draw controls while Carli Johnston (Springfield-Delco) had a groundball for East Carolina.
