From Press Release

Hakan Atillasoy (Harriton) capped his stellar career with a six-point afternoon to lead the No. 15 Ursinus College men’s lacrosse team rolled to a 17-7 Centennial Conference victory at McDaniel.

Atillasoy scored a goal and handed out a career-high five assists to lead the Bears (4-2), who were coming off a sudden-victory tally by the senior in a double-overtime thriller at Muhlenberg three days prior.

Despite missing many games in these past two pandemic-impacted seasons, Atillasoy finished his career with 107 goals and 50 assists. He ranks fourth all-time in goals, fifth in points, and eighth in assists.

Tyler Neal posted three goals for Ursinus, and Erik Ojert (Central Bucks West) recorded two goals and three assists to cap a stellar week in which he combined for four goals and seven helpers in two contests.

Christian Maienshein (Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) netted the first two goals of his career, and rookies Patrick Coleman (Moorestown) and Eddie Newman (Manheim Twp) also got on the scoresheet for the first time. Every healthy player on the roster saw the field, including many collegiate debuts.

The Bears opened the scoring with one of their trademark bursts, netting twice in six seconds as Atillasoy found Erik Ojert for the opener before Rei Lopez (Garnet Valley) scored right off his own faceoff win to make it 2-0. Ojert set up Neal’s first goal before the Green Terror (0-7) stopped the run.

After a 5-1 first quarter, Ursinus put seven into the back of the cage in an explosive second quarter to break the game open. Ben Goetz (Wilson) started the fireworks with a man-down marker, and Atillasoy assisted on a Tyler Falco (Lower Merion) goal before potting one himself less than a minute later.

McDaniel got within 8-2, but Grill had a hand in three consecutive goals – two of them on assists – to spur another mini-run that included Newman’s account-opener. Neal scored with 3 seconds left in the second quarter to lift the Bears to a 12-3 halftime advantage.

Maienshein took over late in the third, netting back-to-back goals in the final two minutes to extend the lead to 15-4. Coleman opened his own collegiate record 13 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Lopez was a dominant 14-for-17 in the faceoff circle, going over 200 career faceoff wins and racking up nine ground balls in the process. He finished his career with 115 ground balls.

Chris Porzelt made four saves over 41:30 of game time before giving way to Quinn Watson, who stopped three shots without allowing a goal in his collegiate debut. Matthew Sy (Lower Merion) made two saves in his first appearance.

The Bears got off a season-high 65 shots, controlled an 18-7 advantage at X, and gobbled up 40 ground balls to just 13 for the Green Terror.
