Josh Davey, formerly head coach at the Park School (MD), was recently appointed head boys’ lacrosse coach at Strath Haven at a Wallingford-Swarthmore School District board meeting .
Davey recently relocated from Baltimore where he was the head coach of the Park School for six years. Prior to coaching, he was a captain of the lacrosse team at Lynchburg University (Class of 2013).
“Coach Davey is passionate about lacrosse, and connected to the game at all levels,” said Strath Haven Athletic Director Pat Clancy. “He is the Director of Sales at Inside Lacrosse magazine, where he manages advertising and sponsorship and assists with their tournament and camp events.
“We are thrilled to have Josh on board, and are looking forward to an exciting spring season.”
Davey -a graduate of Owings Mills High (MD) – has worked at Inside Lacrosse since 2016, Starting as a Sales and Event Manager. He became Director of Sales in 2020.
Davey replaces Jef Hewlings, who retired after guiding the Panthers for 9 seasons.
“Coming from Baltimore, I feel like the best players in the country are coming out of the Philly area,” said Davey. “I know the area and I know about Strath Haven’s storied history.
“I met with coach Hewlings to get the landscape and I know the Central League is one of the most competitive in the country. As a head coach I want to compete at the highest level. That’s all anyone has ask for.”
Davey said his teams at Park School qualified for the MIAA B Division playoffs four of the five years they played (one season lost to COVID).
“I am a younger guy, 30, so hopefully I can give the program a shot in the arm; give them that energy,” he said. “I met many of the guys and they area eager and and excited to get to work.”
Davey was already moving to Philly from Baltimore and was pleased to learn of the opening at Strath Haven.
“One of the main things when I loved to Philly was to find a coaching job and I fell into it very quickly,” he said. “I am eager to get started and put my hands on it.”
