From Press Release
In preparation for the spring 2021 season, head coach Gene Peluso of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s lacrosse team has announced that student-athletes Bubba Brennan, Shawn Coulter (Perkiomen Valley, short-stick midfielder), Jason Coyle, Daniel Crotty and Ryan Gebhardt will serve as team captains for the upcoming campaign.
“We are excited to name captains for the 2021 season,” Peluso said. “The team and the coaching staff decided in overwhelming fashion to name Daniel Crotty, Bubba Brennan, Shawn Coulter, Ryan Gebhardt and Jason Coyle as the 2021 Stevens men’s lacrosse captains.”
“These men have demonstrated to their teammates, and the coaching staff, an exemplary level of leadership, mentorship and positive energy for our program,” the 12th-year head coach continued. “The support for these five student-athletes to be captains was tremendous.”
Brennan and Crotty are carryover captains from 2020, while Coulter, Coyle and Gebhardt enter the program’s leadership group for the first time. Brennan and Crotty were also previously elected to the role in 2019.
“We have the longest running program in NCAA Lacrosse, but equally impressive is the incredible leaders this program has had,” Peluso commented. “We are excited for these men. They have served and mentored since their arrival to Castle Point and we are confident that they will continue the tradition of the great leaders before them.”
Coulter and Gebhardt joined Crotty in receiving a 2019 honorable mention All-America nod from Inside Lacrosse after helping the Ducks post a 4-2 record prior to the shutdown of spring sports.
Coulter – just named a USILA Preseason Second Team All-American – finished with a career-high six goals, while adding three assists, to total a career-best nine points. Coulter also picked up 21 ground balls, including the 100th of his career against Salisbury on Mar. 4.
“In addition to Dan and Bubba, we are excited to have Jason Coyle, Shawn Coulter and Ryan Gebhardt also selected as captains. It was exciting to see the support these gentlemen received from teammates and coaching staff as well,” Peluso said. “We have such a veteran group and a lot of great leadership in this program. The fact that these gentlemen were selected and received such strong support is very impressive.”
