The BIG EAST Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon that Villanova junior midfielder Matt Campbell and Wildcats redshirt-senior defenseman Patrick Kennedy were unanimous selections to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. The Wildcats were also selected third in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll, receiving 17 votes.
Campbell, last season in the Wildcats seven games has 12 goals and nine assists for 21 points. The starting midfielder had six points against Delaware last season and netted four goals in two games. During the 2019 season Campbell earned All-BIG EAST Second Team Honors and was ranked the #23 freshmen by Inside Lacrosse.
Kennedy, who a month ago was named to Inside Lacrosse’s Preseason All-American team, earns a spot on the BIG EAST Preseason Team for the second time. Last season he was named to the 2020 Maverik Men’s DI Media All-American Second Team. He wrapped up the 2020 season with back-to-back career high games, against Penn on March 6th with five caused turnovers and two day later against Drexel had nine ground balls. Last season Kennedy finished with 33 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.
The Wildcats will open their season this Saturday at Delaware. First faceoff is scheduled for 12:00 P.M.
