Liberty National Elite Showcase: Homan (@THEDUKESLC, North Penn) is MVP

FREDERICA, Del. – Lars Homan said it’s easier to get psyched for showcases this summer because coaches are on the sidelines. Motivation was high Friday for the Duke’s Elite and North Penn HS (PA) 2022 midfielder, who was named MVP of the Victory Events Liberty National Elite Showcase at Delaware Turf.

“Really, I just wanted to make a name for myself and get recognized,” he said. “I really am excited this summer that the dead period is over and coaches get to be on the field recruiting and watching us play.”

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Homan showed off a strong dodge, good transition and passing skills and a solid ride.

“It feels great; I wasn’t expecting it (The MVP award) coming in, but getting recognized by the coaches feels awesome,” said Homan, whose Duke’s Elite squad reached the championship game at the Victory Liberty National Elite Tournament and went undefeated in pool play. “The Showcase went well, and things worked out on the field.

“I had great coaches on the sidelines helping me out and my teammates were moving the ball around well. I was making all my shots and getting a lot of attempts and good dodges. I was happy with how I played.”

This season at North Penn, Homan was a team captain and an Honorable Mention Suburban One National Conference selection, collecting over 20 goals and assists. He said he was happy to get a full season after the disappointment of losing the 2020 campaign and a chance to play with his older brother, Jake, who played this spring at Chestnut Hill College.

“It (the pandemic) was pretty hard, especially losing the high school season,” said Homan. “That hurt, losing the chance of playing with my older brother and other friends on the team.

“But once we had the quaratine, I really had time to go work on my shooting and work out. I focused on the (last summer).”

Homan describes himself as a middie who enjoy “playing two-way, I am pretty good in transition and can push the ball down field and dodge downhill hard.”

Homan is not picky on his college choice, but wants to stay fairly close to home.

“I am looking at a mix of schools,” he said. “I want to stay somewhere on the East Coast.

“Obviously, I have to keep working on my stick skills – they can always get better. I will keep hitting the wall and work on my shooting. Overtime everything should improve. I want to get better at making one hard move and dodging downhill and moving the ball quicker out of my stick.”
