Gwynedd Mercy University Director of Athletics Keith Mondillo is pleased to officially announce alum Blase Cesarone (Daniel Boone) as the Griffins’ head Men’s Lacrosse Coach.
“I am happy to announce Blase Cesarone, Class of 2016,, as our new Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach,” said Mondillo. “Blase has been a part of the program for years as a student-athlete, an assistant coach, and now as the head coach.
“His efforts in recruiting have enabled the program to grow over the past few years, and with Coach (Dana) Lindstrom moving into the role of Assistant AD (Athletic Director), it was the obvious decision to have Coach Cesarone step into this role.”
Cesarone has been a member of the Gwynedd coaching program since 2018 and served as an assistant for three years under Lindstrom. As an assistant, Cesarone served as the Griffins’ Offensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator.
“I am incredibly excited and honored to be the next head men’s lacrosse coach here at Gwynedd Mercy University,” said Coach Cesarone. “I have been fortunate enough to call Gwynedd Mercy my home for many years and now I look forward to working alongside this great staff.
“I want to personally thank Coach Dana Lindstrom for this opportunity and for the many years of mentorship and leadership he has provided. He has been influential, not only to me, but to many the Griffins who have had the privilege to play for him. Additionally, I would like to thank Director of Athletics Keith Mondillo and his search committee for their constant support and confidence throughout the process. I look forward to continued growth of the men’s lacrosse program and our Griffin Pride!”
Before joining the coaching staff at Gwynedd Mercy University, Cesarone served as the head coach at Pope John Paul II High School (PJPII) in Royersford. In 2017, he directed the Golden Panthers to their most successful season in program history earning them a spot in their first Pioneer Athletic Conference (PAC) Final Four, as well as notching their first district playoff win.
In his three seasons at PJPII, the program set numerous school records including most wins in a season, first wins against many schools in the division, district appearances, as well as, district wins. During the summers, Coach Cesarone works with Black Bear Lacrosse Club.
Coach Cesarone was a four-year student-athlete and 2016 graduate of Gwynedd Mercy University majoring in human services. Initially, a midfielder during the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Cesarone was better suited as an attackman and found his role in the 2015 season scoring 28 goals and adding six assists. His new role was paramount to the Griffins’ 2016 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship and earned him a spot among the program’s career leaders in game-winning goals.
Additionally, Cesarone worked for Victory Events Series as the Team Sales Manager and Recruiting Showcase Manager. There, he was responsible for running some of the largest boys recruiting events from Philadelphia to Texas.
