The Black Bear 2022 Team took home its first tournament championship at the Lax Federation Members Cup, downing Haymakers Lacrosse (OH), 9-6, Saturday at Calvert Regional Park, MD.
The win completed a 5-0 sweep of the tourney for Black Bear, which won its first tourney crown in its six years together.
The Black Bear offense was led by midfielder Adam Gallagher (Boyertown), who scored 21 goals and dished out a handful of assists. The team use strong balance against the Haymakers, getting key goals down the stretch from Gunnar Seaman (Methacton), Luke CiChetti (Perkiomen Valley), Will Jaeger (Owen J. Roberts), and Jimmy Maro (Methacton). Late in the game, the Haymakers applied heavy pressure to regain possession, but attackman Josh Devine (Owen J. Roberts) successfully split the double team and took it topside for insurance.
The biggest battles happened at the FO X where Brody Borkowski (Methacton), playing with grit, overcame a double pole face and lock offs all game but managed to win almost 70% of his draws to get key possessions. The defense was standout, led by the physicality and poise of Nick Sgarra (Owen J. Roberts), Dylan Gazda (Owen J. Roberts), Patrick Crutchfield (Symrna DE), Zach Karas (Owen J. Roberts), Logan Westlake (Boyertown), and James Mazzoni (Perkiomen Valley). Goalies Nick Mort (Great Valley) and Sean Brown (Souderton) were strong with Brown making some key saves early in the second half to preserve a 1-goal lead.
The Black Bear 2022s finish their summer July 17-18th at the Victory Summer Cup in Bel Air, MD.
