From Press Releases

Senior midfielder Devon Mela (Council Rock North) netted a career-high six goals while sophomore Lindsay Monigle (Cape Henlopen) added five assists as No. 2 West Chester rolled to a 20-3 season-opening victory over visiting Georgian Court on a wet and rainy Friday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

West Chester (1-0) witnessed 10 different goal scorers in a well-balanced attack. Junior Drew McKinney (Downingtown West) added a hat trick in support of Mela’s big day. Tatum Altman, Tara Morrissey (Bishop Shanahan) and Trisha Baud (West Deptford) each added a pair of goals as well.

Georgian Court (1-5) briefly tied the game at 1-all early in the contest. However, West Chester rattled off six unanswered tallies to put the game out of reach. The Golden Rams chased the Lions all over the field, forcing 26 turnovers, including nine in the riding game. Baud contributed a team-best six ground balls while also causing three turnovers and picking up three draw controls.

Monigle finished with six points, adding one goal to her five assists while both Altman and McKinney posted four points in the win. Freshman Katlyn Heck scored her first career goal in her college debut. Classmate Taylor O’Brien (Emmaus) assisted on the Golden Rams’ final two goals to pick up the first points of her college career.

Kacey Kelley (Notre Dame-NJ), Brianne Bamber (Villa Maria) and Helen Kreschollek (Saucon Valley) rounded out the goal scorers for the Golden Rams.

Junior goalkeeper Julianne Clemens (Springfield-DELCO) made 11 saves to pick up the win in the cage. Freshman defender Jess Myers (Downingtown East) caused a pair of turnovers in her college debut as well.

West Chester will host PSAC East rival Shippensburg on Wednesday at Vonnie Gros Field in a contest that will begin at 4 p.m.

D3 – Swarthmore 11, Arcadia 10

Eleanor Miller (two goals) scored with 6 seconds to play to lift the Garnet (3-0).

Sophie Peipher (Tower Hill-DE) had three goals to lead Swarthmore. Julia Impbert had three goals and three assists for Arcadia.
