5/17/12 – Thursday’s District 1 girls’ wrap: Conestoga edges U. Dublin; Great Valley, Radnor, Harriton, Garnet Valley, Strath Haven win

Meghan McGillis had three goals and two assists and tallied the game-winner with 5:31 to play and Kelly Morrison added two goals and two assists to help host Conestoga dump Upper Dublin, 9-8, today in a second-round game in the District 1 girls’ lacrosse tournament.
The eighth-seeded Pioneers (13-7) advance to the quarterfinals Saturday and will play neighborhood rival Great Valley (No. 1 seed) at West Chester East at 9 a.m. Ninth-seeded Upper Dublin closed at 16-4.
Senior goalie Sarah Priem was a standout and had 11 saves for the Pioneers, including several key stops in the final two minutes when the Cards threatened to tie the game. Megan Cameron added a goal and an assist.
5/17/12 – Girls’ lacrosse: Notre Dame topples Episcopal Academy, 18-11, to earn share of first Inter-Ac crown with Churchwomen

The Academy of Notre Dame ended several years of frustration and defeated visiting Episcopal Academy, 18-11, today to force a tie for the Inter-Ac League girls’ lacrosse championship between the two teams.
Kristen Bandos scored eight times and added on assist to help lead the Irish to their commanding win and first-ever Inter-Ac crown.
Both teams finished 11-1 in the league. EA (13-6), which has won outright or shared eight straight Inter-Ac League titles, had toppled the Irish (18-2) by a single goal in their past five games – including a 13-12, triple overtime decision this year.
“We’ve never done this in our school’s history, this has been our goal for the entire year, so we accomplished our goal,” said Bandos. “They’re a great team, it was a fight the entire way, but we pulled it out in the end.”
5/17/13 – Friends Schools girls’ championship: Friends’ Central win 4th title in a row

Ashley Tedesco held up four fingers and thought for a few seconds.

“We had won three in a row,” the Friends’ Central School co-captain said of the Friends League playoff championship game. “If we were going to lose one, I couldn’t have it be my last one.”
Friday afternoon at Germantown Friends, Tedesco and her teammates did what they needed to do to make sure Tedesco and co-captain Emma Dahle would accept the 2013 championship plaque as Friends’ Central defeated the host Tigers, 14-11, to claim its fourth consecutive title.
Dahle and Kate Forrest, who are juniors, scored three goals and had one assist, Tedesco had two goals and four assists, freshman Jesse Rubin chipped in with a pair of goals and an assist, and junior Bianca Newton also scored two goals for the Phoenix (17-2), who got at least one goal from seven players.
5/17/13 – Thursday’s District 1 girls’ roundup: Boyertown edges Henderson; Harriton, Great Valley roll

Alex O’Herrick had three goals and an assist and Rachel Engler scored three goals as host Boyertown defeated Henderson, 12-11, Thursday in the second round of the District 1 girls’ lacrosse tournament.
The seventh-seeded Bears (19-2) advance to the quarterfinals Saturday vs. second-seeded Great Valley at West Chester East (2:15 p.m.).
Haley Wentzel added two goals and Kait Dehaven added a goal and two assists for Bouertown.
Katie O’Donnell poured in seven goals and had one assist for Henderson.
Harriton 19, Merion Mercy 5
Caleigh Foust collected four goals, three assists and two draw controls while Sabrina Tabasso had four goals, two assists and six draw controls to help the Rams cruise.
Ro Hurley led Merion Mercy with two goals.
5/17/14 – District 1 girls’ quarterfinals: @HarritonLax rallies past Downingtown East; Great Valley tops Radnor

Harriton and Downingtown East played a game of “crazy eights” in their District 1 quarterfinal contest at West Chester East’s Zimmerman Stadium Saturday morning.
“They didn’t get that many shots from the field,” Harriton coach George Dick said. “Every time they scored, it seemed like they were on the 8-meter line.”
Rams senior Katie Melvin helped take care of that problem in the second half, scoring six times to give her eight goals as fifth-seeded Harriton (16-5) claimed an 11-7 decision and earned its place in the semifinals at Haverford High Tuesday against top-seeded Garnet Valley at 7:30 p.m. The Jaguars defeated Henderson, 22-11.
In the second quarterfinal today, Great Valley downed Radnor, 14-13, a goal by Linnea Hughes with 16 seconds to play, The third-seeded Patriots will face Springfield-Delco – a 10-9 winner over Conestoga – in the semis at Haverford High Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.
5/17/15 – District 1 girls’ quarterfinals: Great Valley tops Souderton, 15-7, to earn state berth

The Great Valley girls’ lacrosse team took care of business on the steamy turf at West Chester East High’s Zimmerman Stadium Saturday afternoon, collecting a 15-7 victory over Souderton in the District 1 quarterfinals.
With the win, the fourth-seeded Patriots (18-3) advanced to the semifinals to meet top-seeded Conestoga at Haverford High Tuesday at 6 p.m. Great Valley also clinched one of District 1’s five berths in the PIAA Tournament, which begins May 27.
Souderton (17-4) will play at Springfield-Delco Tuesday as the play-back round.
“We’ve had some Saturday afternoon games that didn’t go very well this season,” said Great Valley junior Kristen Knaff, who scored three goals and added a pair of assists.
One of those games was an overtime loss to Radnor at the Katie Samson Invitational. The other was a one-goal loss at Conestoga.
5/17/19 – Clemens (Springfield-Delco) makes key saves to send West Chester into Division II championship

So., goalkeeper Julianne Clemens (/Springfield-DELCO) made two saves in the final minute of the game, the first on a free position, as No. 5 West Chester held on to defeat 10th-ranked Queens (N.C.), 10-9, in the NCAA Division II Semifinals at Grand Valley State University Friday afternoon.

West Chester (20-2) advances to the national championship game for the 10th time in school history, all under head coach Ginny Martino, and will face Adelphi (N.Y.) University on Sunday at noon at GVSU Lacrosse Stadium. Queens ends its season at 19-3.
Sunday’s championship game will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
Clemens stopped a low shot attempt off a free position with about one minute left in the contest. However, West Chester turned the ball over, and Queens had another opportunity with about 30 seconds left. Clemens was tall to the task again, and the Golden Rams ran out the final half minute to advance.
