Radnor used a 9-0 first-half run to defeat Unionville, 23-14, today, in the semifinals of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) girls’ lacrosse championships at West Chester East.
The win advances the District 1 champion Red Raiders (25-1) into Saturday’s finals at HersheyPark Stadium (noon) against Springfield-Delco, which toppled Manheim Township, 14-4. Radnor has defeated their Central League rivals twice already this season, 8-7 in the regular season and 8-6 in the District 1 finals.
The Raiders scored the first three goals of the game and then allowed the Indians (22-4) to score four unanswered tallies. Radnor then reeled off nine straight with the help of a strong transition game and some key turnovers to take a 12-4 lead before Unionville’s Julie Moran scored with 36 seconds left in the half.
Courtney Campbell led the Raiders with six goals and three assists and Allie Martin had five goals whole Kelyn Freedman added three goals and four assists and Ali Kelly had three goals and two assists.

Staff Report
Springfield-Delco outscored Manheim Township, 11-2, in the second half today and claimed a 14-4 triumph in the semifinals of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) girls’ lacrosse championships at Gov. Mifflin High.
The win vaults the Cougars (23-2) into the PIAA finals against Central League rival Radnor Saturday at HersheyPark Stadium at noon. The Red Raiders, who shared the Central League crown with the Cougars and Strath Haven, advanced by toppling Unionville, 23-14.
Radnor, the defending champion, and Springfield-Delco have met twice already this year. Radnor defeated the Cougars, 8-7, in the regular season and 8-6 in the District 1 championship. The Raiders (No. 1) and Cougars (No. 2) are the top-ranked teams in the PA Media Rankings.
Manheim Township, the District 3 champion, entered play as the state’s lone undefeated team. The Blue Streaks (23-1) trailed only 3-2, at halftime and were down only 7-4 with 12:09 to play until the Cougars tallied the game’s final seven goals.

HERSHEY, Pa. – All spring, the Harriton High team’s motto has been “one shot.”
It took two shots in overtime – both from senior Caleigh Foust – for the Rams to claim their first state title. Foust scored 28 seconds into the extra period to give Harriton (25-2) an 8-7 decision over Radnor (20-5) in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championship Game at Hersheypark Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Harriton celebrates the PIAA title
It was the fifth consecutive state crown for a Central League team. Radnor won the first two PIAA titles (2009-10), then Garnet Valley took two in a row (2011-12) before Harriton earned the championship in its first trip to Hershey.
Harriton, ranked No 2 by Phillylacrosse.com and No. 15 nationally by TopLaxRecruits.com, finished an amazing turnaround from a team that was 3-12 in 2007, the year before George Dick took over as coach.

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – With her team trailing, 5-3, to Summit at halftime of the Tournament of Champions final Saturday night, Moorestown’s Marie McCool realized she had to take charge.
“I knew we needed goals, so I needed to go hard, I needed to do something,” said the senior US Lacrosse and Under Armour All-American. “I thought, ‘This is my last half ever of high school lacrosse, so make it a good one.’
“And I’m so proud of every girl on this team. I’m never going to forget my second half of this game.”
McCool memories of the second half will help her smile for years. She scored all four of her goals in the stanza as the Quakers rallied for an 8-6 victory and their third straight TOC championship as well as their third consecutive undefeated season.

6/8/17 – Boston College’s Frankenfield (Wissahickon) reflects on near-perfect ending to 2017 season
By Chris Goldberg
Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 6/8/17
Even a week after her Boston College team ended a Cinderella season one step short of a championship, Wissahickon graduate Laura Frankenfield was feeling the disappointment of an unfulfilled goal.
“When you are in the Final Four, it’s hard to get a perspective,” said Frankenfield, whose BC Eagles fell to Maryland, 16-13, in the NCAA Championship 11 days ago at Foxboro, Mass. “I have been in this weird mourning period.”

Frankenfield (24 goals, 6 assists) was a starter on a team that never was considered a championship contender by most followers. But someone forgot to tell Boston College’s players.
BC, which finished fifth in the powerful Atlantic Coast Conference regular season at 3-4, made one of the most shocking post-season runs by defeating powers Syracuse, 21-10, and USC, 20-14, before edging Navy, 16-15, to reach the national finals against undefeated and top-ranked Maryland.
6/8/19 – Springfield-Delco tops Villa Maria, 10-8, in Class AA for first PIAA championship
By Harry Chaykun

The PIAA began crowning state champions in lacrosse in 2009.
In the 10 state tournaments that were held before the one Saturday, the Springfield-Delco girls team had played in the final three times and came home disappointed each time.
Villa Maria Academy had earned the right to play for a state title only once – and had been successful with a victory over Kennard Dale last June.
Since Villa Maria had beaten Springfield-Delco for the 2019 Class AA district championship two weeks ago, many felt the PIAA final would go the Hurricanes’ way.

Late in the second half of the PIAA Class AAA championship game at West Chester East High’s Zimmerman Stadium Saturday afternoon, Harriton coach George Dick called out to the officials that he wanted to make a change in goal.
Dick sent senior Morgan McElhaney to the cage, and junior Alex Turner sprinted off the field to the cheers of the Harriton faithful as well as salutes from her teammates and coaches.
Turner turned away seven shots, many of them appearing ticketed for the back of the goal cage, as she did all she could to help the Rams (24-2) knock off Manheim Township (22-4), 12-6, for the school’s second state title.
