From Press Release
The Philadelphia Lacrosse Association is pleased to announce the addition of Scott Gabrielsen and John McEvoy to the Men’s Selection Committee for the Eastern Pennsylvania Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
Both Gabrielsen and McEvoy are members of the PLA Chapter’s Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 2008. Both were members of the Philadelphia Wings and remain deeply involved in the game in the area.
Gabrielsen, who starred at the University of Vermont, captained the ‘94, ‘95 & ‘98 Wings’ championship teams. McEvoy, a Villanova great, has been the head lacrosse coach at Malvern Prep for 15 years, leading the team to numerous Inter-Ac titles and national Top 25 finishes, including a 24-0 season in 2016 when his Friars were among the top 3 in every national poll.
“Gabes and Mac bring years of service, experience and knowledge of lacrosse to our committee, having played and coached at the highest levels. We welcome their expertise and insight to our panel, which solicits and reviews nominations of candidates for induction into our prestigious Chapter Hall of Fame,” said Hank Resch, Chair of the Men’s HOF Selection Committee.
The Men’s HOF Selection Committee consists of existing Hall of Famers and other uniquely qualified individuals in the Philadelphia lacrosse community. In addition to Gabrielsen, McEvoy and Resch, the committee includes John Begier, Pat Carney, Scott Growney, Chris Hupfeldt, Bill Leahy, Tom Lemieux, Jeff Pettit, Tony Resch and David Seidman.
The PLA hosts the Hall of Fame induction ceremony every two years to honor the great players, coaches, officials, promoters and others, both men and women, who have made significant contributions to the game in Pennsylvania and are deserving of the highest recognition. The first class to the HOF was inducted in 1998. All National HOF members with a Pennsylvania nexus were admitted to the local chapter as well. US Lacrosse requires that all candidates for the National HOF first be members of a Chapter HOF.
The PLA will announce the nominees for the Hall of Fame Class of 2021 later this year. The incoming class will be selected following a balloting process and a vote by the PLA Board of Directors, based on the recommendations of the Men’s and Women’s HOF Selection Committees, which conduct and supervise the balloting process.
While inductees were scheduled to be recognized at the PLA’s Hall of Fame Banquet on January 30, 2021 at the Whitemarsh Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill, PA, it’s likely the event will be deferred until the Fall of 2021 due to the pandemic.
CANDIDATE SELECTION SURVEY PARTICIPANTS WANTED
The PLA invites interested members of the men’s lacrosse community to participate in the balloting process. Persons who register to participate will receive a digital survey listing 17 candidates, and will be asked to pick their Top 10 Choices, ranked in order of priority. Ballots are tabulated and reviewed by the Men’s HOF Section Committee and help the committee in making final recommendations to the PLA Board.
If you are interested in participating in the survey and balloting process, please send your name, email addresses and a short description of your connection to the men’s game (and/or any credentials of note) ASAP to David Seidman (davidseidman@mac.com). The survey and balloting process will commence shortly.
The names, pictures and lacrosse biographies of the Class of 2021 will be posted in the Hall of Fame section of the PLA and US Lacrosse websites. Their names and pictures will also join previous Hall of Fame inductees on plaques located with other lacrosse-related memorabilia in display cases at the “Wall of Fame,” which is located at United Sports in Downingtown.
