HS Boys’ Previews: PCL’s Conwell-Egan, Archbishop Ryan

Conwell-Egan Catholic

League: Philadelphia Catholic League

Head Coach: Tom Reed (4-13) Assistant Coaches: Pat Durso, Lou Perry

 2019: 4-13 record, CEC had its first PCL win in over 5 seasons. 

 Season Opener: March 20th, Home vs. Frankford , 3:45pm

Key returnees: Jake Turk (SO), Jimmy Bickel (SR), Colin McCarty (SR), Sam Schurr (SR), Egan Rigney (JR), Brian Farrell (JR) Newcomers: Kevin McMennamin (SO), Mike Fitzpatrick (JR)

Coach’s Outlook: “After losing a large amount of seniors and two transfers from last season, we still plan on making a run at the PCL playoffs.  We have the perfect combination of young athletes and great senior leadership to get us to a 10-win season.

Archbishop Ryan High School

League: Philadelphia Catholic League 

Coach: Shane Taylor, First year Head Coach and Ryan alum

2019: Ryan went 2-14 and missed the playoffs.

Key returnees: “We are bringing back a great senior class that is looking to avenge last season. Mike Kalai and Steve Neilson, who are 4 year Varsity starters, are expected to be huge contributors. Seniors Jimmy Van Allen and Reece Salas, while sophomore George Harris are other key players.”

Coach’s Outlook: “We are trying to change the culture from the following years. We have been working hard at practice and expect to shock some teams this year. We are expecting to be playing important games in early May for a playoff spot.”
