HS Boys’ Previews: Central PA’s Manheim, Palmyra

Manheim Township

League: Lancaster-Lebanon League (PIAA DIstrict 3, Class AAA)

Coaches:  Head Coach – Dan Lyons (Fifth Year, 87-13). Assistant Coaches – Jeremy Adams, Will Hendrick, Troy Karpinski, Ken Snyder

Last Year’s Record: 19-4 Overall (10-0 League – Defeated Conestoga, Avon Grove, Palmyra, & Cumberland Valley in Non-League Play) – L-L League Regular Season Champion, L-L Tournament Runner-Up, District 3 AAA Runner-Up, PIAA AAA Qualifier

Key Returnees: Tyler Kurtz (Sr., Attack – 49 goals, 9 assists), Eddie Newman (Sr., Attack – 24 goals, 18 assists, 43 GBs), Colton Pierson (Sr., Midfielder – 13 goals, 5 assists), Ben Mann (Sr. Midfielder – 2 goals, 4 assists), Tyler Fox (Sr., Defense – 1 goal, 1 assist), Zack Dotter (Sr., Midfielder – 1 goal, 1 assist), Zach Tomlinson (Sr., Goalie), Owen Hirsch (Jr., Goalie), Tyler Moritzen (Soph., Goalie)

Coach’s Outlook for 2019: “We bring back experience at all levels of the field, but once again have huge shoes to fill following our class of 2019. Our biggest challenges will be integrating nearly 20 freshmen into our culture and schemes and finding 1-2 new starters at each position who are not only ready to meet the challenge physically, but mentally as well. With a young group like this, there will be a lot of learning and the road will be bumpy at times, but I believe our seniors are the right young men to lead us to our goals.”

Palmyra

Coach: Dave Ondrusek 5th year (77-14 record), Coach of the Year for Central PA and Phillylacrosse.com Central PA

Last year’s record: 20-3 Won division, league and District III (Class AAA) titles

Coach’s outlook for 2020 season: “We are replacing a very talented group of graduates. We have a young squad but should be able to compete with the best.”
