From Press Release

The Cabrini men’s lacrosse team collected another honor on Monday, as head coach Steve Colfer was honored at the 116th Philadelphia Sports Writers Association Banquet.

Colfer was one of a distinguished list of Philadelphia area athletes and coaches to be recognized, including Philadelphia Phillies catcher JT Realmuto, Philadelphia Flyer center Sean Couturier, former Philadelphia Eagle defensive lineman Connor Barwin and Villanova head coach Jay Wright.

Colfer was honored for leading the Cavaliers to the University’s first team national championship with a 16-12 win over Amherst at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Cavaliers closed the 2019 campaign with a program best 22-2 record and 15 game win streak. The team’s 22 victories also fell one shy of tying the NCAA record for most wins in a season.

The Blue and White also extended its NCAA-record conference win streak to 121 games and raised the club’s 19th consecutive conference crown with a 21-6 victory over Gwynedd Mercy.

Cabrini finished the season ranked in the nation’s top 20 in 13 different NCAA statistical categories, including top five rankings in winning percentage (#1), turnovers per game (#2), ground balls (#3), scoring margin (#3), man-down defense (#3), assists (#4) and scoring defense (#5).

Colfer and the Cavaliers will open the 2020 season on Feb. 15, when they make the short trip down the Main Line to Haverford College.
