Boston Cannons’ Head Coach Sean Quirk has stayed busy since Monday’s MLL Draft concluded, signing goaltender Ryan Kern (Salesianum School, Duke’s LC) out of the MLL Player Pool.
The Navy senior has started 46 games in his career for the Midshipmen. In five games played in 2020, Kern boasts a 9.57 GAA and .531 SV%, with a 3-2 start to the season before it ended prematurely due to COVID-19.
The 5-9, 190 goalie from Delaware is 24-22 in his career, with a .517 SV% and 9.82 GAA since 2017. He is one of seven players in program history with over 450 saves with 465 saves in his four-year career.
Kern was named to the 2018 Second-Team All-Patriot League squad, and earned the 2019 Lt. Robert T. Bianchi Award, awarded to the Most Valuable Player on the Naval Academy lacrosse team each season in memory of former Navy lacrosse player Lt. Robert Bianchi.
Kern – the Phillylacrosse.com Delaware Player of the Year in 2015 when he led the Sals to the sttate title – is set to graduate from Navy in 2020 and will not return to collegiate play in 2021, making him eligible to sign a contract to an MLL team.
