FREDERICA, Del. – SouthShore (N.J.) 2022 players and coaches had no trouble admitting they did not play their best game last Sunday when they handily fell to the PA Roughriders in the final of the AA division at the Boys Summer Slam.

So when SouthShore arrived at the Liberty National Elite title game today in 2022 AA against the Colorado Outlaws at the Delaware Turf Sports Complex, there was no letdown.

“It was rough losing to the Roughriders and we wanted redemption this week so we went out hard,” said SouthShore goalie Aidan Peters (St. Augustine Prep).

SouthShore got its payback today as it toppled the Outlaws, 4-2, to claim the Victory Events championship – one it took for granted last week.

“It fueled our fire a lot,” said SouthShore midfielder Elmarko Jackson (St. Augustine Prep). “We felt we should have won that game and we kept it in the back of our mind that we have to take every team seriously.”

SouthShore led from the start today. Jackson, Luke Hendricks (St. Augustine Prep), Thomas Schutta (Ocean City) and Gennaro Petrongolo (St. Augustine Prep) all scored once for SouthShore.

“We were missing a lot of kids and we played extra hard for them this weekend,” said Peters. “I think putting trust in our defenders – the poles and the middies – was key. Thankfully, they trusted me on outside shots. I can handle those.”

Jackson agreed: “Coach Nick (DeCaprio) had a good game plan,” he said. “That allowed us to limit our shots on our quick slides. And Aiden did a good job in goal. We had some slip-ups, but did a good job.”
