Staff Report
Christa Somits, who guided Downingtown East to the Ches-Mont League girls’ lacrosse championship this spring and enjoyed a successful 8-year run, has resigned as head coach.
Somits, who was named Ches-Mont Coach of the Year in 2019 and led her Cougars to an undefeated league campaign and the PIAA Class AAA tourney, said she wanted to spend more time with her family and her new baby girl.
Somits, a Henderson grad and standout at West Chester University, had 186 wins in 12 seasons as a head coach, also enjoying success at Villa Maria Academy (2008-10) and West Chester East (2011).
Somits was a four-year starter at West Chester and a member of three Division II finalists.
Downingtown East seeks a head varsity and a varsity assistant coach. Any interested candidates should contact Corey Sigle (csigle@dasd.org) or
