From Press Release

The Shipley School is proud to announce the hiring of former Villanova head coach Shannon O’Neil as its new girls’ Varsity lacrosse coach for the defending Friends Schools League champions.

Shannon O’Neil

O’Neil, a native of Newburgh, N.Y., originally came to the Main Line as a student in 1993 at Villanova. Coach O’Neil was a starter as a freshman and an integral member of the squad throughout her four-year tenure as an undergraduate.

O’Neil was named to the Mid-Atlantic Region All-American team in both 1996 and 1997. She was named to participate in the North/South Senior All-Star Game at the conclusion of her senior season in 1997.

In addition, she served as one of the Wildcats’ co-captains. Following graduation, O’Neil spent the 1998 season as an assistant coach then was named the first head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Division II Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H.

She returned to the Main Line to be the head coach at Villanova and coached from 2000-2006. During her tenure, the Wildcats made multiple trips to postseason play for the Patriot League and was named Patriot League Coach of the Year. O’Neil still holds two records at Villanova, first in points in a season and second in assists and ground balls in a season. O’Neil currently resides in Ardmore, Pa. with her son Trey.
