Police identify recent Stockton grad Liguori (Archbishop Ryan) as victim of fatal crash in S. Jersey

Police in South Jersey have identified the victim of a fatal car crash on Monday as Archbishop Ryan graduate Jon Liguori, 21, a member of Stockton University’s conference championship team.

Galloway Township police said Liguori’s vehicle was traveling on Wrangleboro Road near the intersection with Walden Way around 3 p.m. Monday when his car veered off the road and struck a utility pole. Two passers-by and officers tried to put out the fire and free Liguori before firefighters arrived but were unsuccessful, authorities said.

Liguori had recently graduated from Stockton and was a regular as a midfielder. He helped Stockton win its first CSAC championship this year, and finish 18-3 while also winning an NCAA Division III playoff game over Morrisville State, 20-9. Liguori started 4 of 21 games and collected 4 goals, 7 assists and 15 groundballs.

Liguori also started 11 game in 2018 when he collected 2 goals abd 2 assists. He scored 12 goals and had 13 groundballs in 2017 in 19 games. He also scored 1 goal as a freshman when he played in 16 games as a reserve.

Liguori,of Philadelphia, also was a standout football player at Ryan and helped his team win a Northeast Philly Catholic Classic over George Washington as a senior in 2014 when he was recognized by the Inquirer and the Northeast Times for dedicating his play on the field and his job to his mother, who had recently been diagnosed with cancer .

The team set up a GoFundMe page to assist Liguori’s family with funeral costs. Donors have raised $35,033 as of today.
