It will be a homecoming for many Amherst players next Sunday when the Mammoths make their first appearance in an NCAA Division III lacrosse championship.

A group of Philly grads played key roles today as Amherst toppled NESCAC rival and host Williams, 12-8, in the Division III semifinals at Williamstown, Mass.

Amherst (18-3) will face Cabrini – a 16-13 winner over Salisbury – at 4 p.m. May 26 at Lincoln Financial Field for the title.

The Mammoths used a 5-0 fourth-quarter spurt to erase an 8-7 deficit after Kevin Stump (St. Joseph’s Prep) had given Williams (18-4) the lead with 13 seconds to play in the third period. Stump led the Ephs with three goals and an assist.

The following Philly grads contributed to the Amherst win:

NECAC Player of the Year Evan Wolf (Lower Merion) had one goal and one assist;
Ethan Kazmierski (St. Augustine Prep) had one goal
Jimmy McAfee (Germantown Academy) had 7 groundballs;
Defenseman Rod Castro (Radnor) had one groundballs and one caused turnovers;
Goalie Gib Versfeld (Hun School, Langhorne native) had 8 saves;
Jon Coffey (Lawrenceville School) had two goals.
