BALTIMORE – It was a perfect Philly ending to an All-Star Game that featured the elite seniors in the country.

Goalie Delaney Sweitzer (Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) patiently waited and waited at midfield before firing a lead pass to a streaking Livi Lawton (Downingtown East), who appeared to be shot out of a cannon before racing in for the game-winner in overtime Friday night as the north defeated the South, 14-13, in the Under Armour Senior All-America Game at Johns Hopkins Homewood Field.

In all, five Philly girls and three from New Jersey Group 3 state champion Moorestown competed in the game.

“We always work well together and I was just waiting for it,” said Lawton of the pass from Sweitzer. “I made the cutbacks and I saw the cut and she hit me perfectly.”

Lawton (signed with North Carolina) also had a caused turnover and Sweitzer (USC) had four saves on eight shots and also grabbed two groundballs. She had a save before the game-winning pass as she took about 10 seconds to work her way to midfield to set up Lawton for the game-winner.

“Everyone had great attiture going into the game,” Sweitzer said. “We were all hyped up, being loud, being normal silly girls.

“I’m ecstatic. This was just an awesome end to our HS career, playing with and against girls who have been working their whole life to get to this moment.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Olivia Dirks (Episcopal Academy, Penn State) had a goal and four draw controls for the North. Also, defender Becky Browndorf (Upper Dublin, Florida) had two groundballs.

“It was the coolest feeling to see two of my closest friends win the game for us!” said Browndorf. “I love playing with the two of them and showcasing the Philly talent!”

For the South, Izzy Rohr (Episcopal Academy, Penn) had one groundball while Moorestown’s Delaney Lawler (Moorestown, Ohio state for field hockey) had a groundballs and a caused turnover, Kayla Frank (Virgvinia Tech) had one groundball and goalie Logan Lillie (Northwestern) had one save.

“They had everything so well planned; the entire weekend at the Under Armour headquarters was so amazing,” said Rohr, noting that the players get to tour the Under Armour complex and get free gear. “We were meeting all different people and girls I had heard about and played against at showcases. Now we are all grown up.

“Delaney made a huge save and then seeing Delaney pass to Livi for the great goal … even though we lost, it was not so much about winning or losing. It was a fun game and I am happy for the Philly girls.”

Added Dirks: “It’s such an honor to be here and so amazing to play with such great players. I think it makes you play even better when you’re surrounded by a bunch of girls that are even better players.

“It was such an amazing experience to have this opportunity. It’s sad that my High School career is over, but I am just going to keep working hard every day.”

Dirks said she relished playing with her Philly friends.

“I never got to be on a team with them besides Under Armour; last year we were in the Underclass tourney,” she said. “It’s been so much fun to play together. I couldn’t think of a better way to end it.

“It’s totally awesome to rep Philly. We knew we wanted to win the game so we came out with energy. “

Said Browndorf: “It was such an honor to be included in this group of talent. I was beyond excited, but also nervous to play with the best.

“I’ve played with the Philly group before so I knew we all had each others’ back and somewhat knew where each of them would be on the field for support. Overall, it was just an amazing experience and a really fun weekend.”

“I’ve taken away from this experience that the next level of lacrosse that we are all playing will be a faster pace and more aggressive – which I enjoy,” added Browndorf. “This summer I’m really focusing on speed and agility to prepare for the next level. I’m excited to play for Coach Mandee (Amanda O’Leary, Temple and Spring-Ford grad) and can’t wait to represent the Gators.”

Rohr concluded: “I just think the competition at Under Armour was amazing. Everyone is to talented and at Penn you can’t stay stagnant. You have to always want to get better. It will be amazing to get to play and learn under coach Karin (Corbett).”
