Having advanced to five straight Patriot League Tournaments entering 2019, the Lehigh women’s lacrosse team has been predicted to finish third in the preseason poll, as announced by the league on Thursday. Patriot League coaches and Sports Information Directors took part in the vote. Additionally, senior Courtey Henig (Notre Dame, NJ) and junior Sondra Dickey (Conestoga) were named preseason All-Patriot League, one year after each received postseason All-League recognition in 2018.
The Mountain Hawks, who have finished third each of the last two seasons, garnered 130 points, only trailing Loyola (156 points, 12 first-place votes) and Navy (152 points, eight first-half votes). Following Lehigh was Boston University (112 points), Colgate (84), Army West Point (82), Holy Cross (71), Lafayette (55), Bucknell (39) and American (19).
Henig was named second team All-League last season, despite missing the final seven games due to injury. Even with seeing limited action, she posted 43 points (19 goals, team-high 24 assists). Henig recorded six multi-goal games, 10 multi-point games and three hat tricks. One of her highlights came vs. No. 12 Penn State when she tied a career-high seven points (three goals, four assists), becoming the first player with seven or more points against the Nittany Lions in the regular season in almost a year. Henig enters her senior season with 129 career points via 70 goals and 59 assists.
Dickey broke out as a sophomore in 2018 to earn first team All-Patriot League honors, leading the Mountain Hawks in goals (54) and points (76) while finishing second in assists (22) and draw controls (81). Dickey’s 76 points were good for eighth in school history. Named the team’s Athlete of the Year, Dickey was also named second team IWLCA All-Region and second team All-ECAC. She garnered Patriot League Midfielder of the Week four times, tied with Navy’s Julia Collins for most in the league. Dickey also added 34 groundballs and 19 caused turnovers.
Lehigh begins the season with three of its first four games at home, beginning on Saturday, Feb. 9 at home vs. Liberty. The only road contest in that stretch is Feb. 16 at Penn State.
