March 19, 2019 by Chris Goldberg

Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 3/19/19
This is one of a series of previews for the 2019 Philly lacrosse season.

High School: Germantown Friends School

Coach: Katie Bergstrom Mark (18th season)

League: Friends Schools League- 2018 Champion (13-4, 9-0 in league)

Captains: Natalie Harrity ‘19, Jane MacRae ‘19, Marlie Golden ‘19

Notable Returning Tigers:
On attack for GFS, Jane MacRae ‘19 (FSL 1st Team All League 2018) and Junior Lily Seldin will give the Tigers a lot of experience and trickiness on the offensive side. In the midifield, we have a dynamic sister duo of Curran McLaughlin ‘20 (FSL 1st Team All League 2018) and Annie McLaughlin ‘22 (FSL Honorable Mention All League 2018) plus returner Clare Meyer ‘22 (FSL Honorable Mention All League 2018). The Tigers’ defense calls on seniors Marlie Golden and Natalie Harrity (FSL Honorable Mention All League 2017) to control the backfield with the addition of speedy Carlee Nicoll ‘20 adding to the rotation.

Players to Watch:
In Goal, the Tigers have three netminders that will share time between the pipes- freshman, Sam Egner and sophomores Maya Barber and Haven Arms. The goalie position will be really exciting to follow for not only this season, but the next few, as each athlete brings unique qualities, personality and strengths. We are excited that the Tigers have such a strong goaltending unit that wants to work together to get better for the team and carry on our strong goalkeeping tradition.

Coach’s comment for 2019 season: “Overall the team has awesome potential and dedication; additionally, there are so many talented newcomers to the GFS Lacrosse Program, the Tigers will again be a contender in the league.”
