This is one of a series of Philly girls’ lacrosse previews for 2019.

High School: Villa Maria Academy

League: Catholic Academies (Athletic Association of the Catholic Academies or AACA)

Coach: Allie Sweeney (entering 3rd season as head coach) – Phillylacrosse.com Co-Coach of the Year for 2018

Last year’s record:  23-2, 1st in AACA, 1st in District 1AA, 1st in AA States

Key returnees: Hannah Young 2020 Attack, Bridget Finley 2020 Attack, Kristy Kucia 2019 Defense, Abby Walheim 2019 Midfield, Adele Iacobucci 2019 Midfield, Margie Carden 2021 Attack

Others to watch: Sarah Delaney 2019 Attack, Jacki Murray 2020 Midfield, Maggie Powers 2020 Defense

Coach’s outlook for 2019 season: “After such a successful season last year we hope to be just as competitive. We know that we graduated many key players but we still have a strong attack that we hope to be able to build around this season. We see this season as a blank slate and we know we are the only ones that be able to write what happens. Our success rests on how well we can play together and how hard we come out for each game, no one else is going to determine our success. We have to give it all and do whatever it takes to stay on top.”

High School: John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School

League: Philadelphia Catholic League

Coach: Brian Goettner, 1st Year (2nd stint)

Last year’s record:  0-10, (11th in PCL)

Key returnees: Kayla Masino, SR, Mid-Field, Alexandra Urbine, SR, Mid-Field, Alyssa Gueco, SR, Attack, Iniyah Morris, SR, Defense

Others to watch: Kiley Bottinger, JR, Defense, Alison McCormick, SR, Defense, Ariana Rivera, SR, Defense

Coach’s outlook for 2018 season: “A lot of excitement in the program. Looking to build from previous years. Senior class is excited to get started and hoping for a great season.”
