East Penn Conference championships: Parkland boys, girls win titles

James Cipolla scored three goals and Greg Santa-Anna added two goals and two assists as Parkland defeated Allentown Central Catholic, 9-8, Monday night at Northampton to claim its second straight East Penn Conference boys’ lacrosse championship.

Parkland (19-0) kept its perfect season going as it toppled the Vikings for third time this year.

Meanwhile, in the East Penn girls’ championship, Morgan Hurd tallid five goals as Parkland toppled Easton, 12-6, for its sixth crown in seven years.

The Parkland boys scored four consecutive goals after falling behind 1-0 and never gave up the lead. The Panthers led 6-4 at halftime and allowed ACC (16-4) to close within one goak only at 9-8 in the final four minutes of play.

Matt Geroulo added two goals for Parkland and Eli Fisher had a goal and two assists while James McLaughlin posted 7 saves.

“It was a great team win for our players and the Parkland program,” said Parkland’s first-year coach, Mike Bender. “We are excited about the accomplishment, but remain focused on what’s next for us.

“Everyone on the roster and staff have been working extremely hard and are well deserving of a repeat EPC championship.”

Matt Scandone had three goals and an assist and Jack McGorry had three goals for the Vikings. Nolan Barr had 11 saves.

Parkland is the No. 1 seed in the District 11 Class AAA tournament and the Vikings are the top Class AA seed.

In the girls’ final, Emily Leiby had two goals and an assist and freshman Kaz Kennedy scored twice to help Hurd on attack for Parkland (13-7).

Riley McDonald collected three goals and an assist and Maddi Caffrey had a goal and an assist for the RedRovers (14-4), who had edged the Trojans, 17-16, in their EPC regular-season game.
