February 17, 2019 by Chris Goldberg

Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 2/17/19

Former New England Black Wolves standout Kevin Crowley got the best of this one.

Crowley, the former Wing before the franchise moved to Connecticut 4 years ago, had four goals Saturday night to spark the host Wings past the Wolves, 14-10, nefore 10,614 at the Wells Fargo Center in National Lacrosse League play.

It was the first time Crowley – the co-founder of Fusion Lacrosse and assistant coach at The Shipley School – got to meet his former team since the Wolves traded him back to Philly in January.

Meanwhile, Matt Rambo (La Salle and Duke’s LC alum, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy assistant coach) had three goals and Jordan Hall had one goal and five assists for the Wings. Doug Buchan had 42 saves in net for Philadelphia (2-7).

Stephan Leblanc had seven points on three goals and four assists and Callum Crawford had one goal and five assists for the Black Wolves (4-4). Dereck Downs had his first career hat trick in the loss while Tyler Digby had a goal and four assists.

The teams play again today at New England’s Mohegan Sun Arena, begining at 3 p.m.

The Wings got off to a hot start, scoring just 1:32 into the game to take the early lead and later seized a 4-1 advantage and took an 8-6 lead into halftime.

Dave Emala pulled New England within 10-9 on his first career NLL goal with 13:41 remaining in the fourth quarter. Philadelphia then rattled off three goals – one by Blaze Riorden (1G, 4A) and two by Josh Currier (2G, 1A) – in a span of 55 seconds to increase their lead to 13-9 with 10:01 remaining.

Kiel Matisz added four assists and Justin Guterding added three helpers for the Wings. Trevor Baptiste won 17 of 26 faceoffs.
